When you know all the players, there weakness the importance that they take 2 out of the 3 games against the Indians to stay in the running for first place.
When you are through the first 4 or 5 batters in the order and you still know the guys batting 6 7 8 and 9th. When you see a guy who normally bats 7th get bumped up to 3rd because of the kind of pitcher there going to face tonight.
When you see the guy who normally plays second get moved to center and the center get moved to second just because the team they are playing tonight hits a lot of balls in the gaps and while the normal center fielder has the better glove the second basemen is lightning fast and can cover the gaps better.
When every pitch maters and you aren’t rooting for an out you are routing for the batter to fall down in the count so you can force a ground ball or a pop up.
When your team is down by 7 in the bottom of the ninth and the first batter strikes out and the whole stadium has left because they thought it was over but you stayed and moved down from the upper deck to 50 feet behind home plate to root your team on and watch one of the most amazing comebacks in MLB history.
When you see a new guy get pulled up from the Double A team for his first start in the Bigs because someone was injured and the guy fouls off 17 balls in a row from freaking Pedro Martinez of all people and its only the second inning and the unofficial count in your head says oh my god that puts Pedro at around 50 throws already and the guy can only last for around 80 – 90 so were going to be into the reserves by the 5th inning and the reserves reserves by the 7th.
When you have your big hitter at the plate and he’s up in the count 1 strike 3 balls and you know the guy in the on deck circle is red hot against this pitcher so he can’t afford to walk the guy at the heavy hitter at the plate and you know you just know a fast ball right down the middle is coming and before the swing you can already hear the crack of the bat…… Ohhhhhhh baby it’s exciting!!!!!
